YAMI SANCHEZ
Hello! I'm Yami Sánchez and I am currently a sophomore majoring in Biology while also pursuing Spanish and psychological minors. As a Latina and first-generation student, I decided that I should become an educated individual that can make the communities I am involved with proud of the person I am. Additionally, I hope to start a legacy of educated Latinos in my family and create a better future for immigrants of all backgrounds. When I'm not busy studying, I like to play board games with my roommates, Facetime my family, and watch cooking recipes on Youtube.

I decided to join LUPE because I wanted a home away from home. As an introverted individual, I found it difficult to reach out and join communities that I wanted to involve myself in. Most of the groups that I was interested in joining required large time commitments or had a heavily populated community that didn't feel connected/personal. I felt alone and missed talking to people that had similar cultural backgrounds to me. Then I met two other Latinas, Sofia and Alejandra, and they expressed to me that they also experience similar sentiments and offered me a spot in their new organizations. I happily accepted for the 2020-2021 school year.
